Last night, our school was buzzing with excitement as we hosted a hugely successful KS2 Reading Evening. The event saw a fantastic turnout, with many parents and children joining us for an evening dedicated to celebrating the joy of reading.
Guests were warmly welcomed with tea and biscuits, setting a relaxed and friendly tone for the evening. Children had the opportunity to explore a wide range of books, sharing stories with one another and enjoying the chance to read in a fun and supportive environment.
While the children immersed themselves in books, parents were informed about our school’s current focus on improving reading fluency. Staff shared valuable insights and strategies to help support children’s reading development at home.
To top off the evening, every child left with a free book to enjoy, helping to continue the excitement and love for reading beyond the classroom.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a memorable success. We look forward to many more events that bring our school community together through the power of reading!
As part of our science unit on electricity, Year 6 had an exciting opportunity to learn more about renewable energy with the support of the Earth Energy Education (EEE) Team.
On Tuesday 23rd September, the EEE Team visited our school to lead a hands-on workshop all about solar power. Pupils explored how solar panels generate electricity and even experimented with solar batteries, bringing their classroom learning to life.
Later in the week, on Thursday 25th September, Year 6 travelled to Langar Lane Solar Farm to see renewable energy in action. The guided tour provided a fascinating insight into how solar energy is harnessed on a large scale to help power our world in a cleaner, more sustainable way.
As well as discovering the technology behind solar panels, pupils also explored the wildlife that thrives around the solar farm, gaining an appreciation for how renewable energy can work hand-in-hand with nature.
It was an inspiring experience that not only deepened pupils’ scientific understanding but also highlighted the importance of sustainable solutions for the future.

This week, our school held its eagerly anticipated House Captain Hustings Assembly, a key event in our student leadership calendar. Pupils from across the school gathered to hear inspiring presentations from our Year 6 candidates, each hoping to be elected as House Captain for one of our four houses: Water, Fire, Air, and Earth.
The hustings gave each candidate the opportunity to share their vision, values, and ideas for leading their house. From creative fundraising plans to team-building activities and sports day motivation, the speeches were full of enthusiasm and thoughtful proposals. It was clear that our Year 6 pupils had put a great deal of effort into preparing their presentations, demonstrating confidence, responsibility, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact.
Following the assembly, the children had the exciting opportunity to vote for their house captains. These votes will be carefully counted before the beginning of next week, and we look forward to announcing the results soon.
The assembly not only showcased the leadership potential of our oldest students but also encouraged younger pupils to think about the qualities that make a good leader. It was wonderful to see the school community come together to support their peers and engage in the democratic process.

The much-loved Summer Reading Challenge is returning to Inspire Libraries this summer with a fresh twist—and our school is excited to take part!
This year’s theme is Story Garden – Summer Reading Challenge 2025, inviting children to dig into the joy of reading and let their imaginations grow wild. Through this creative and engaging initiative, young readers can discover the magic of storytelling while earning a series of free rewards just for reading library books.
To kick things off, Inspire Libraries is hosting a virtual assembly where pupils and parents can learn all about the challenge. The session will guide families through how to join, what to expect, and showcase the wonderful surprises awaiting every participant.
Not only does this challenge keep reading fun and fresh throughout the summer holidays, but it also supports literacy, creativity, and a love of books that can last a lifetime.

We were delighted to welcome PC Voce and PC Carlile to our school during yesterday’s assembly. Their visit focused on the theme of respect — one of our core school values — and why it’s such an important value to carry into the wider world.
The officers spoke about how respect plays a vital role in building positive relationships, staying safe, and becoming responsible members of the community. Our children had the opportunity to ask a range of thoughtful, pre-written questions, which the officers answered with enthusiasm and insight.
A big thank you to PC Voce and PC Carlile for taking the time to visit and share their experience with us. It was a valuable session that helped reinforce the importance of respect in and out of school.
