This week, the Junior Road Safety Officers led an assembly about how to stay safe and be seen near roads at night.
They explained the importance of wearing something visible in the dark, such as a high-visibility jacket or clothing with fluorescent material, which looks bright during the day, and reflective strips, which shine in car headlights when it is dark or dull. They also shared ideas such as adding reflective badges or stickers to coats, bags, and hats.
The children were reminded to use pedestrian crossings whenever they are available and, if possible, to carry a torch to help them see and be seen. The team also spoke about the importance of having lights and reflectors on bikes.
To support their message, the JRSOs created a short video showing an example of crossing the road safely and unsafely at night. Although the video was filmed during the day in the school car park, everyone used their imagination to help bring the message to life!
We are all very excited with how our new playground area is coming along. Phase 1 is almost done, and the children will have access to more usable surface space for playtimes and PE in the months we are unable to use the field. I hope you can see from the photos how much work has already taken place in order to get this first phase complete. We would like to say a huge thank you to our FoS for all their hard work organizing so many fundraising events for this project, and indeed others that the school hugely benefits from. We would also like to say a huge thank you to all our wonderful children who have taken on their own events like Paige and Ava in Class 4 who raised money for the playground project by donating their hair to the Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for children who have lost theirs due to medical conditions. They raised an amazing £2136 and still counting! Finally, a huge thank you to all of you, for attending our events and for any donations you have made….THANK YOU!
The fundraising continues with Phase 2, raising money for new climbing equipment. We are looking to raise a further £10,000. Please look out for any up and coming events taking place next term. We’ve had a fantastic first half term of sport at Cropwell Bishop! While football has taken centre stage so far, there’s plenty more sporting action to come throughout the year.
The year began with the Year 5/6 Rushcliffe Football Tournament at St Peter’s. Our boys’ team were brilliant, competing with determination and teamwork – with several players making their first ever competitive appearance for the school. The team finished second in their group, narrowly missing out on a place in the semi-finals.
Next up was a Football Skills Festival, where a group of boys and girls from across Key Stage 2 took part. They represented the school superbly, showing great enthusiasm throughout the event.
To round off the half term in style, the boys’ football team achieved an incredible 5–0 victory in the Rushcliffe Cup, taking them through to the quarter finals – a fantastic way to finish an exciting start to the sporting year!
Looking ahead, next half term promises to be another busy one, with a Year 3/4 Sports Skills Festival, a KS1 Fundamentals Festival, and a Year 5/6 Indoor Rowing Competition all on the calendar. We can’t wait to see even more pupils getting involved and representing our school with pride.
On Thursday 16th October our Kindness Ambassadors helped me to pack up the generous donations brought into school for our harvest service. We then took them down to Jill at Cotgrave Community Kitchen. While we were there, we could see how busy it was, and how your fantastic donations will go a long way to help many families struggling in this difficult cost of living time. Jill was very keen to say a huge thank you to the school and to our Ambassadors, Melissa, Grace, Hugo, Nancy, Paige and Sophie for representing our school value of Kindness so brilliantly. And a big thank you to all of you for the incredible amount of donations that made this all possible.
